Why Brock Turner Isn’t The Monster Everyone Thinks He Is

I have to admit, when the Brock Turner story first hit social media, I was one of the millions who felt disgusted at what had happened. But almost immediately after, once I read the story through and through, I had my doubts. Then came the trial, and more articles coming out on what had happened that night, and the more I became convinced that Brock Turner wasn’t the monster everyone had made him out to be. That was when I got off that ridiculous bandwagon full of pitchfork-wielding social justice warriors and decided to think for myself.

Here are a few things so many simpletons, in their blind rage, failed to consider.

It was a mistake. That was all it was.

Turner was a kid who got drunk in a place where people go to get drunk. The victim “Emily Doe” was also drunk in a place where people go to get drunk. And as these things usually unfold, events became sexual.

Brock Turner isn’t a serial rapist.

Turner doesn’t go around Stanford looking for women to rape. He’s not a serial rapist. Like I mentioned earlier, he was just someone who got drunk, saw an attractive woman, and wanted to experience a sexual encounter with her. He may have had such encounters before and knew how to go about foreplay. In his drunken stupor, that’s what he did. That’s all he did.

Brock Turner isn’t evil. He was just drunk.

Turner isn’t evil. In fact, he was about to present evidence of his good character during his trial, but was denied. People who know him knew he made a mistake, one he would never do if he weren’t smashed dead drunk.

What about all those girls who get drunk and have sex, only to wake up the next morning without remembering it?

Yes, it happens. It happens all the time. Girls go to a party, or they go to a bar. They look for drinks. They get drunk. They flirt with all the guys they find interesting. They hook up, and they have sex. Some don’t even wait to get home. Some girls even do it in bathroom stalls. Then they wake up the following morning with no recollection of what had happened. Do we blame the boys they had sex with for that happening?

This is the problem I have with the world today. Social justice warriors and armchair vigilantes come out in droves when a sensational headline hits, as they look for someone or something to hate. In this case, it’s Brock Turner, who everyone has turned into a monster, something which he is most definitely not.

Turner may be stupid. Turner may be reckless. But he’s not a monster. Brock Turner was only made a monster by people who want there to be monsters in the world for them to attack. I guess it makes them feel good.

Don’t Get a Boob Job If You Can’t Handle The Attention

Since the #MeToo and #TimesUp movement, men have to tread lightly than ever before. It seems that nowadays, all it takes to send a guy to HR is looking at a woman the wrong way. Statistics show 25% of the men who ask female colleagues out on date are accused of sexual harassment in the workplace. Yup. Not only do we live in an age of empowered women, we live in an age of litigious women. Because of #MeToo and #TimesUp, any discussion on gender equality effectively becomes about indictment of men and reparation for women.
If the following example sounds all-to-familiar, you can #me2 to my blog. Why not?

Where I used to work I had a female colleague who had a crush on one of the managers. Presumably she had a boob job done to get his attention. The strategy proved to be very effective. Her first day back from surgery, not only did she have his attention, she had half of the men in our department rubbernecking every time she’d pass by.

On the third day, a nice-looking guy on the floor complimented her on her figure 2.0 with a “You’re looking mightily fine.” She thanked him and moved on. The next day, another guy praised her. She just smiled. Later the resident Trekkie commented how stunning she looked in her dress. She didn’t react. Not then. Not there.

She didn’t come to work the following day. All of us received an email from HR telling us to come in on Saturday for a mandatory seminar on sexual harassment in the workplace. It turned out the attention was too much for her, and that we, the men had to pay for it with a weekend.

Isn’t the whole purpose of getting breast augmentation to attract men’s attention? Why else did she spend the money and suffer through all the trouble? We were being punished because her makeover achieved its intended purpose? Unless she has “my boobs are solely for xxxx’s enjoyment, the rest of you shut your eyes and scram” tattooed on her forehead, by what measure is this fair?
A man works out and gets ripped, he doesn’t mind getting attention from girls, in fact, he’d savor it. If women truly want to be on an equal footing to men, they shouldn’t cry foul whenever their moods dictate. But I doubt many of them can handle that kind of gender equality, can’t they?
